Tuesday of the Twenty-first Week in Ordinary Time

So now I have shown you the five paths of repentance. First, condemnation of sins. Second, forgiving the sins of those near us. Third, prayer. Fourth, almsgiving. Fifth, humility.

St John Chrysostom on the temptations of the devil

last week at the democratic convention former presidents and presidential candidates told us that we’re damned if we don’t change our president, this week at the republican convention our president is telling us we’re damned if we do; wherein lies our hope?

Today’s Scriptures

Let no one deceive you in any way.

2 Thessalonians 2:3

it seems that our nation is so shaken; who will lead us in doing what is right?

R. The Lord comes to judge the earth.

Say among the nations: The Lord is king.

He has made the world firm, not to be moved;

he governs the peoples with equity.

Psalm 96

with all the accusations of “fake news”, to what source should i turn?

R. Alleluia, alleluia.

The word of God is living and effective,

able to discern reflections and thoughts of the heart.

R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Hebrews 4:22

how can i weigh all of the many issues of our time and vote for the “right” candidate?

…and have neglected the weightier things of the law: judgment and mercy and fidelity.

Matthew 23:23
