Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time

We need to participate for the common good. Sometimes we hear: a good Catholic is not interested in politics. This is not true: good Catholics immerse themselves in politics by offering the best of themselves so that the leader can govern.

Pope Francis, 9/16/13

The U.S. bishops’ document “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship” describes abortion as a “preeminent” threat to human life. The document acknowledges many attacks against human dignity, while also warning against a false “moral equivalence that makes no ethical distinctions between different kinds of issues involving human life and dignity.”

Bishop J. Strickland, Tweet, September 5, 2020

how do i deal with the reality of my conscience taking me in a direction that my fellow catholics warn is evil?

Today’s Scriptures

You, son of man, I have appointed watchman for the house of Israel;

when you hear me say anything, you shall warn them for me.

EZ 33:7

are not bishops strickland and gregory, fathers james martin and james altman, sisters dede byrne and simone campbell, joe biden and melania trump and all baptized catholics appointed as watchman with a different view as to what evil is approaching?

what is my response whenever i hear a cry from a watchman ? attack or listen?

R. If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

Oh, that today you would hear his voice:

“Harden not your hearts as at Meribah,

as in the day of Massah in the desert,

Where your fathers tempted me;

they tested me though they had seen my works.”

PS 95:8-9

to which watchman do i owe my allegiance?

Brothers and sisters:

Owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another;

for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.

ROM 13:8

how should i report the evil i see when serving as a watchman?

At times it takes greater love to rehabilitate a brother or sister. In the #GospelOfTheDay (Mt 18:15-20) Jesus invites us to put them in God’s hands: only the Father can show a greater love than that of all brothers and sisters put together.

Pope Francis, Tweet, September 6, 2020

how can two catholics, seemingly following their consciences in opposite directions, be united in their faith?

For where two or three are gathered together in my name,

there am I in the midst of them.”

MT 18:20
